This bold move by Atlanta marks an attempt to re-establish itself on the NHL map. Atlanta first hosted an NHL team from 1972 to 1980 when the Flames moved to Calgary. The Thrashers then joined the league in 1999 but relocated to become the Winnipeg Jets in 2011.
The most recent expansions such as the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken have been a success and have sparked increased interest from potential team owners. However, Atlanta is not the only city vying for a future NHL franchise. Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith has expressed his interest in bringing a team to the area and might follow the lead of South Forsyth in making strategic moves to persuade Bettman to consider adding an NHL team in Utah.
Stay tuned for more updates.
