Over the past 12 months, it has seemed almost inevitable that Anaheim Ducks GM Pat Verbeek would trade Trevor Zegras, but thus far it hasn't quite happened. In 12 games this season, Zegras has just one goal and 3 points, and given how many young stars the team are building around him, this lack of development is majorly concerning for the 23-year old star.
These struggles make a deal even more inevitable, and now, Insider Marco Normandin has revealed a failed trade that almost saw the Montreal Canadiens pair him with the likes of Lane Hutson and Cole Caufield to make up the future of the organization.
Now, the urges for Montreal to finally put up a deal big enough to Zegras continue, as pairing him with Nick Suzuki as the second-line centre on this team gives them immense strength down the middle for years to come.
It's unclear why the trade already fell apart, but with the Canadiens rebuild continuing, it's time for them to make a blockbuster deal, and if the Ducks are truly still open to it, expect Montreal to show plenty of interest.
