The Ducks scored late in the 2nd period to take a 3-1 lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins but the goal was immediately waived off foe goalie interference. Anaheim challenged the call as it appeared Sam Carrick did not touch the goaltender. The referees must have seen something different though as they upheld the call, giving Anaheim a minor penalty for delay of game. Cronin then went ballistic at the officials, earning his team an additional minor penalty as well as an ejection.
In all fairness, Cronin may have an argument. Goaltender interference is one of the most inconsistently called rules in all of professional sports and in this case it seems like Jarry was only interfered with by his own player. Perhaps the officials believe Carrick pushed Rust into Jarry but that seems like a but of a stretch in this instance.
