If Jeremy Swayman doesn't re-sign with the Boston Bruins before the 2024-25 season starts, reports suggest the team's contract offer will be dropped.

With the regular season just days away, the Bruins and their top goaltender are still in a standoff over a new deal. According to Daily Faceoff, Swayman has already rejected an eight-year offer worth $7.8 million per year. Now, a new report says that if he doesn't sign before the season begins, that offer will likely decrease.

Bruins President Cam Neely stirred up controversy when he publicly mentioned that Swayman has 64 million reasons to be playing right now, referring to the value of the offer. This comment surprised many as contract talks are typically kept private.

While some believe Neely's comments hurt the negotiation process The Sick Podcast reports that Swayman should not expect a better deal. In fact the team is likely to reduce their offer if a contract isn't signed by the start of the season.

"They're very likely going to pull that off the table once the season starts," the source told Sick Podcast News. "When that happens, it will decrease after a certain amount of games and continue to do so as the season progresses."

There are rumors that Swayman is unhappy with how negotiations have gone and may request a trade. If this report is true, it seems likely. If he wasn't willing to accept $7.8 million a year for eight seasons, he's unlikely to take a lower offer. Both sides have until December 1st to reach an agreement, or Swayman will be ineligible to play this season.

Adding to the tension, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery has already announced that Joonas Korpisalo will be the starting goaltender on opening night. Korpisalo was acquired in a trade with the Ottawa Senators that sent Linus Ullmark out of Boston to make room for Swayman's signing.
