A new report confirmed that the Buffalo Sabres are set to buy out Jeff Skinner's contract.

Breaking news on X announced that the Sabres are expected to release Jeff Skinner before the end of his contract:
"BREAKING: #LetsGoBuffalo is expected to buy out the remaining 3 years on Jeff Skinner's contract, per @CMDeDominicis."

Matthew Fairburn from The Athletic wrote about the financial implications of buying out Skinner's contract. He noted that while Skinner is set to receive $22 million in salary for the rest of his contract, a buyout would only cost $14.67 million.
In his own words:
"The financial implications of a Skinner buyout are important to consider, though. Skinner still has $22 million in salary left on his contract, and the actual dollars for a buyout would be $14.67 million. Here's an outline from CapFriendly on what the salary cap ramifications would be for a buyout this offseason. Values are in millions."

Skinner has been an important part of the team for the past six seasons, scoring 291 points in 427 games. He had the best season of his career in 2022-23, scoring 82 points in 79 games.
However, he struggled to maintain the same level in the 2023-24 season. Although he still managed 46 points, he couldn't have the same impact for the Sabres as he did the previous season.
More updates to come.
