Valeri Nichushkin has made headlines again, being forced to leave the Colorado Avalanche during the playoffs for the second consecutive year to enter the NHL Player Assistance Program.
Frank Seravalli was the first to report the news at the time confirming that Nichushkin has been suspended without pay for a minimum of six months for violating the terms of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.
In a new report, Seravalli mentioned that Nichushkin, 29, cannot have his contract terminated while he is in the program, but it's possible once he is eligible for reinstatement. With six years and $30.5 million remaining on his contract, it's unclear if the Avalanche will terminate it.
Hopefully, Nichushkin will be able to bounce back and stay clean to continue contributing to the Avalanche in the future.
