Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings could be facing a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety after a dirty hit on Marshall Rifai of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 2024-2025 preseason has been more physical than usual & last night's game between the Maple Leafs & Red Wings was no different. Late in the third period, Larkin delivered a clear hit to Rifai's head, earning a two-minute minor penalty for an illegal check.

Fortunately, Rifai wasn't injured and stayed in the game. However, this hit is the latest in a series of questionable plays from Larkin, who has gained a bit of a reputation for these types of hits.

There's been growing concern about the roughness in preseason games, which prompted NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to suggest that shortening the preseason might be discussed by the league's board of governors. Bettman also mentioned the possibility of expanding the regular season from 82 to 84 games, especially if the league adds more teams through expansion.

"We've heard that. We've heard that. It's on the list of things to think about."

Stay tuned for more.
