General Manager Yzerman explained that they weren't very active due to the high asking prices from other teams and their improved depth.
»Part of why we weren't very active at the deadline this year is we like the depth we have in the organization,» he said. «Giving up this year a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick for depth, we're better off bringing up our guys from Grand Rapids for that."
»We're not one of those top, top teams that's willing to give up first round picks and top prospects to get in on some of those rental players," he continued.
Yzerman emphasized their preference for promoting players from within rather than sacrificing top draft picks or prospects for short-term depth.
Expect AHL standouts like Jonatan Berggren and Simon Edvinsson to get call-ups soon.
