Carter Hart's name has been brought up and linked to the Edmonton Oilers after the official hiring of new general manager Stan Bowman.

Earlier this summer, the Philadelphia Flyers chose not to offer a qualifying contract to goalie Carter Hart, making him an unrestricted free agent. This decision was not unexpected, as Hart was among the five players charged in the February 2018 Hockey Canada investigation. Hart, along with Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, Dillon Dube, and Alex Formenton, were the players accused for the incident.

Hart had started 25 games for the Flyers in the 2023-24 season before taking a leave of absence. Now, his name is trending in Edmonton following the Oilers hiring of Stan Bowman as their new GM.

Fans are criticizing Edmonton's decision to hire Stan Bowman, fearing he might bring in players with controversial backgrounds. The backlash intensified when Hart's name was brought up in discussions about Bowman's hiring.

Stan Bowman resigned in 2021 and was recently reinstated by the NHL and began seeking new opportunities on July 10. Despite support from Sheldon Kennedy, a prominent advocate for abuse survivors, many fans are unhappy with Bowman's return and have expressed their concerns, including bringing Hart into the conversation.

Hart, who was drafted by the Flyers in the second round of the 2016 NHL draft, played a total of 227 games for the team.
