Bad news strikes the Edmonton Oilers regarding forward Evander Kane ahead of game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers.

This morning, the Edmonton Oilers held a practice session before Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The major news was that forward Evander Kane was absent from the ice.

Sportsnet journalist Mark Spector reported that a source told him Evander Kane rarely sat on the bench during Game 1. Whatever injury he's dealing with makes sitting uncomfortable for him.

No Kane at practice, which is normal.
One thing, source tells me Kane never (or very seldom) sat on the bench in Game 1.
Whatever his injury, sitting doesn't work for him.
He's walking the line between courageous and ineffective, 1 pt in 8 games.

Kane's performance is clearly affected by his injury. It's important to consider when his presence might start hurting the team. Everyone wants to play at this stage to help the team win, but if his play begins to negatively impact the team, it might be better for him to sit out a game or two.

UPDATE:

Despite missing the practice, Kane later spoke to the media and confirmed he will play in tonight's game against the Florida Panthers. He reassured everyone with a simple statement: "Kane will play tonight."

Kane will play tonight.

Evander Kane (undisclosed) WILL PLAY in Game 2 after missing the #Oilers morning skate.

*Lines likely to be determined in warmups (7:30 PM EST)

However, the lineup will be finalized during warmups at 7:30 PM EST.

Additionally, defenseman Cody Ceci will not play tonight and will be replaced by Vincent Desharnais. During the morning skate, the Oilers had the following defensive pairings:

At morning skate, #Oilers have Darnell Nurse with Vinny Desharnais ahead of Game 2.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Kulak-Broberg
Nurse-Desharnais

Appears Cody Ceci may be a healthy scratch.

We will see the official lineup when the Oilers take the ice for warmups. It will be interesting to observe Evander Kane's performance despite his undisclosed injury.
