Kassian played for the Oilers for seven years, racking up 135 points in 412 games between 2015-16 and 2021-22. He was a polarizing figure among fans, loved for his physical play but criticized for his inconsistent on-ice performance.
Kassian became an Oilers fan favorite during their 2017 playoff run, especially in Game 2 of their first-round series against San Jose. In that game, he delivered huge hits and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal, helping the Oilers win the game and the series.
After playing the 2022-23 season with the Arizona Coyotes, Kassian retired from the NHL in October 2023. He briefly played for Sparta Praha in the Czech league before officially hanging up his skates.
Now, Kassian returns to the Oilers as a pro scout based in Ontario. He joins a notable scouting staff that includes Dani Rylan-Kearney, the former commissioner of the National Women's Hockey League, who was hired last October.
Although Kassian hasn't been listed on the Oilers' website as a scout yet, that will likely change soon.
