Last year, Black was already one of the tallest hockey players in North America at 6'8" when the Panthers invited him to training camp. Though he didn't make the team, the Panthers were impressed and offered him a contract.
This year, Black returned to camp even taller. Now listed at 6'10", he's on track to surpass Zdeno Chara's record as the tallest player in NHL history. Chara, at 6'9", held that title for years, but Black could break it if he makes it to the NHL.
However, Black still has work to do before reaching the league. Last season, he played for Dartmouth in the NCAA, posting a 13-8-8 record, a 2.58 goals-against average, and a .910 save percentage. He also played one game in the AHL for the Charlotte Checkers, where he struggled, giving up six goals with a .789 save percentage. Black will need to prove himself at the AHL level before getting a shot at the NHL, but his remarkable height certainly makes him a player to watch.
