According to reports, Montreal Canadiens star Patrik Laine will be out for the remainder of the 2024 calendar year.

Montreal Canadiens fans are still waiting for an update on forward Patrik Laine, who left Saturday's game after a knee-on-knee collision with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Cedric Pare.

Laine was seen at Monday's practice in Brossard, sitting on the bench with his left knee in a brace and using crutches. Despite the injury he was in good spirits as he was seen chatting and smiling with his teammates.

Head coach Martin St. Louis commented on Laine's absence, saying it stings even more because they were excited about his return to the rink.

Fans were also hoping for updates on both Laine and 2023 first-round pick David Reinbacher, who also left Saturday's game with a lower-body injury. However, the Canadiens announced there would be no update on either player on Monday.

The delay in Laine's update is likely due to swelling in his knee, which prevents him from undergoing an MRI at this time. As soon as the swelling drops down the team will have a clearer picture of the injury.

If Laine misses the entire season, it would be a huge setback for both him & the Canadiens. After dealing with an upper-body injury and time in the NHLPA Player Assistance Program last season, Laine was desperate to start fresh with the Canadiens this year. The team, fans & the broader hockey community are hoping for the best and hoping to see him back on the ice at some point.

Recent reports indicate Laine will be out for the remainder of 2024.
