The New York Rangers surprised many today by placing veteran forward and alternate captain Barclay Goodrow on waivers.
Goodrow signed a long-term deal with the Rangers after winning a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. While he is known for being a gritty bottom-six forward and a great locker room presence, his performance has declined with age. Additionally, his $3.64 million cap hit is difficult to manage.
Barclay Goodrow has three more seasons on his contract carrying a $3.6M cap hit. With the #NYR needing to clear cap space, the highly-respected forward is a free asset to any other organization.
