After dealing with goaltending issues over the past two years, the Flyers have secured a low-risk, potentially high-reward addition to their roster. According to a recent announcement from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Flyers, the team has signed 25-year-old goaltender Keith Petruzzelli to a one-year contract.
This past season, Petruzzelli split his time between the ECHL and the AHL, playing for the Toronto Marlies. Despite limited playing time in the AHL, he posted a solid 3.55 goals-against average (GAA) and showed considerable potential. Standing at 6-foot-5, Petruzzelli has the ideal size for an NHL goaltender, and his 2.90 GAA in 25 appearances for the Marlies during the 2022-23 season led many to believe he could be a valuable depth option for Toronto.
However, now as a free agent, Petruzzelli is heading to Philadelphia, where he has a clearer path to the NHL. This move could be a significant step forward in his career.
