The Pittsburgh Penguins forward, who was traded from the Winnipeg Jets, reportedly never discussed his playing time or role with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. Instead, McGroarty sought a trade because he felt uncomfortable wearing the team's jersey, stating that it didn't "feel right."
According to Cheveldayoff, McGroarty confided that when he put on the Jets jersey during last year's development camp, it felt inauthentic and unnatural to him.
Fans quickly took to social media to express their disappointment and frustration with the young forward.
McGroarty no longer has to worry about wearing the Jets jersey, as he is now a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins after months of trade speculation.
McGroarty was drafted 14th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He has yet to play an NHL game, which was initially thought to be the reason for his trade request. However, it now appears that his discomfort with the Jets jersey was the driving factor behind his decision.
