Jimmy Snuggerud has decided not to pursue a jump to the NHL next year. Instead, the first round draft pick will play his third season with the Minnesota Gophers in the Big 10 conference.
Snuggerud was selected 23rd overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2022. Many had been curious whether he would opt for the NHL or return to Minnesota. Snuggerud and Blues GM Doug Armstrong have now confirmed his decision, which has the full support of the team.
The Gophers are understandably excited about the news.
Over the past two seasons with the University of Minnesota, Snuggerud has played 79 games, tallying 42 goals and 84 points. He also played a significant role in Team USA's gold-medal-winning performance at the 2024 World Juniors, scoring 5 goals and 8 points in 6 games.
Hockey is a family affair for Jimmy Snuggerud. His father, Dave, also played for the University of Minnesota and participated in 265 NHL games, mostly with the Buffalo Sabres. His grandfather, James Westby, represented Team USA at the World Hockey Championships in the 1950s.
