As time went on, the duo's age caught up with them and they were no longer able to carry the team. Eventually, they had to move on to other franchises in hopes of winning a Stanley Cup before retirement. Unfortunately, neither of them was able to win the championship.
While Joe Thornton has yet to confirm his retirement and is currently without a contract for this season, the latest news is that both he and Patrick Marleau will be returning to San Jose. This is undoubtedly exciting news for Sharks fans, who will be eager to welcome back two of the team's greatest players.
