Shane Wright is facing embarrassment after another bold claim, this time calling himself a "generational talent."

The forward, known for his confident and sometimes arrogant statements, first made headlines when he was projected as the top pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. Over a month before the draft, Wright expressed confidence that he deserved to be the first overall pick. However, he ended up going fourth to the Seattle Kraken. When he stepped on stage, he noticeably glared at the Montreal Canadiens, who had passed on him.

Wright's exact words at the time were:

"I believe that's where I should go. I believe that I'm the best player. I believe that, you know, throughout my play, throughout my entire life, it has shown that I'm the best player, and I'm a competitive guy, and I want to be that spot, and I don't want anyone to take that from me, and I believe that I'm deserving of being that number one spot, and I believe that I'm going to be the first pick"

However, his confidence may be misplaced. NHL Fantasy recently projected Wright to collect 48 points in the 2024-25 season. While 48 points is respectable, it hardly reflects the level of a "generational talent," especially considering it would rank him 138th in the league based on last season's stats.

"I'm still a player that I should be. I'm still a generational talent."

Despite his achievements of 22 goals and 47 points in 59 games with the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds last season, Wright's self-assessment seems overblown. His latest comments have made him the subject of ridicule once again. Hopefully, this experience will teach him the value of humility.
