Steven Stamkos' future in doubt following Alex Killorn's comments
The Tampa Bay Lightning have an interesting offseason ahead of them with their captain Steven Stamkos being an unrestricted free-agent. Now it seems that he may be on the way out based on the comments of one of his teammates.
Stamkos's former longtime teammate Alex Killorn commented on his situation with the team recently. He seemed to imply that the team's relationship with their captain continues to deteriorate as they don't want him around after this season.
His comment could be interpreted the other way around as well. As one of Stamkos's former teammates, he could have inside information about this. He might know that Stamkos himself is starting to consider not re-signing with the team even if there is an offer. According to sources obtained by the Athletic, significant obstacles remain in the way between the Lightning and Stamkos reaching a new agreement.
Stamkos will he an unrestricted free agent following this season, but contract talks stalled last summer.
Stamkos is one of the all-time greats to come from the organization. He's played in 1078 career NHL games, all with the Lightning. He has 554 goals and 1133 points to show for it. Even now, in his age 33 season, he has 39 goals and 77 points.
Hopefully the Lightning and Stamkos will come to an agreement. Not many around the league would like to see him play with a different team to end his career.
