If he clears waivers his contract will be mutually terminated making him an unrestricted free agent as of tomorrow.
The 22 year old Svejkovsky joined the Lightning organization recently after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for depth forward Bennett MacArthur in June. Originally a fourth-round pick by the Penguins in 2020, Svejkovsky was born in Tampa while his father, Jaroslav Svejkovsky, played for the team. This season, Lukas has scored just one goal in four games with the Lightning's AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Last year, he spent most of his time in the ECHL with the Penguins' affiliate in Wheeling, where he tallied 37 points in 30 games but struggled to transition to a full-time AHL role, managing just four points in 19 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Although he has Czech roots, Svejkovsky's entire hockey career has been in North America, playing in British Columbia before joining the WHL's Vancouver Giants, Medicine Hat Tigers, and Seattle Thunderbirds from 2018 to 2022.
With his father now an assistant coach for the Vancouver Canucks, there's a possibility that Lukas might find a spot within the Vancouver organization, perhaps with a two-way deal involving their AHL team, the Abbotsford Canucks. Currently in the final season of his entry-level contract, he had already received a $92.5K signing bonus for this year and was earning $80K with Syracuse.
