According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, current owner Jeff Vinik is close to selling the team for around $2 billion.
Businessman Doug Ostrover, owner of Blue Owl Capital, is reportedly the buyer. If the sale goes through, it will set a new record for the highest sale price of an NHL franchise, surpassing last year's sale of the Ottawa Senators.
Given the Lightning's success in recent years, it's no surprise their value has soared. The sale highlights the tremendous growth of hockey in Florida, with the team only about 30 years old.
While the deal isn't finalized yet, all signs point to Doug Ostrover becoming the new owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning soon.
