Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner will sit out his fourth and fifth consecutive games due to a high-ankle sprain, announced head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Marner will not travel with the team for their upcoming road trip, which includes games against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals.
Keefe stated that Marner's condition is being monitored, and they are focusing on ensuring his comfort before considering his return to play.
Despite ongoing treatment, Marner's injury has not improved as expected, prompting the team to take a step back in his recovery process.
Marner leads the Maple Leafs in assists with 51 and has accumulated 76 points in 62 games this season.
Additionally, defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin is unlikely to join the trip due to illness, having missed Monday's practice.
Since his acquisition from Anaheim via Carolina on February 29, Lyubushkin has tallied two assists in seven games with the Maple Leafs.
With Marner sidelined, Toronto has managed a 2-0-1 record in his absence, currently standing third in the Atlantic Division with 85 points.
