Concerns rise over the health of Auston Matthews after recent photo surfaces ahead of training camp
A recent photo of Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has sparked concerns among fans about his current health.
In the image, Matthews appears noticeably slimmer than his listed weight of 215 pounds on the NHL website. This has led to speculation that he may have lost 15 to 20 pounds, possibly aiming to improve his speed and agility on the ice.
Matthews missed games 4, 5, and 6 of last season's first-round playoff series due to illness, which also impacted his performance in game 3. Although he returned for game seven, the Leafs were ultimately eliminated.
The star center has scored 60 or more goals in two of the past three seasons and has a total of 368 goals and 281 assists for 649 points in 562 games over his eight-year career. Matthews was recently named captain of the Leafs, taking over from John Tavares.
