Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs prospect charged for hiring a hitman
Former Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Gabriel Gagné is facing serious legal trouble following violent accusations from his ex-girlfriend.
Gagne, who once attended prospect camps with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, is on trial for multiple charges. These include hiring a hitman to kill his ex-girlfriend, assault, assault with a deadly weapon, and making death threats, all of which stem from his former partner's allegations.
In her testimony, Gagne's ex-girlfriend described repeated aggression and controlling behavior, saying his actions often made her fear for her safety. She detailed several disturbing incidents that escalated over time.
Court testimony, translated from French, also mentioned Gagne's substance abuse issues, including frequent drug and alcohol use.
This isn't Gagne's first encounter with the law. In 2023, he was sentenced to six months in prison for harassment charges involving another ex-partner. He also served three months in 2024 after pleading guilty to luring a minor under 16 years old.
The outcome of Gagne's current trial is still pending.
