Insider Pierre Lebrun reports that Utah HC is aggressively pursuing former 7th overall pick defenseman Ivan Provorov from the Philadelphia Flyers who is set to become an unrestricted free agent following this season.

Utah Hockey Club is facing a major challenge with key defensemen Sean Durzi & John Marino who are sidelined by long term injuries. As a result the team is actively seeking help on the blue line having already been linked to Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

Now in a surprising development TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports that Utah has also shown interest in acquiring veteran defenseman Ivan Provorov from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

«My sense though is that the Blue Jackets may not be ready at this point to deal him I don't think they want to take away from their roster too early in the season.»

Columbus currently with a 3-3-0 record recently defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2 showing promise in their early season performance. While they may not be playoff bound the Blue Jackets seem content to keep their roster intact for now. Keeping veterans like Provorov could also boost their trade value if the team continues playing well.

Though Columbus may eventually entertain offers for Provorov & other veterans like James van Riemsdyk & Kevin Labanc it seems they are in no rush to make moves at this stage of the season.

Stay tuned for more.
