For years Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals has been one of the NHL's most controversial players often drawing the ire of fans & opponents alike. On Thursday night he stirred things up once again with a big hit on Montreal Canadiens Kaiden Guhle, leading to a swift response from veteran forward Josh Anderson.
Known for his toughness Anderson didn't hesitate for one second. He immediately went after Wilson who is no stranger to scrappy encounters. But this time Anderson was the clear winner. In a decisive fight Anderson took his time & ultimately over powered Wilson much to the crowd's delight. For his efforts Anderson received a five minute fighting major & a game misconduct but it was a move many fans thought was justified given Wilson's reputation & the hit on Guhle.

Social media was abuzz after the fight with Canadiens fans & even some neutrals celebrating Anderson's show of team loyalty. Wilson has built his career around getting under his opponents' skin but Thursday night he seemed to push things too far & paid the price. The reasons for Wilson's hit on Guhle remain unclear as there's no known history between the two players but his intent to disrupt was evident.

Despite this intense moment the Canadiens couldn't capitalize ultimately losing the game 6-3 which dropped them to a 4-6-1 record for the season. Wilson's performance finished with a goal & an assist which means he may have had the last laugh even as Anderson defended his teammate.
