The Oilers have struggled early this season with key players like Connor McDavid & Corey Perry calling for more intensity. After a slow start & going down 1-0 in the first period frustrations were growing among both the team and its fanbase.
Looking to spark his team, defenseman Darnell Nurse took matters into his own hands, challenging Nashville's Michael McCarron to a fight. Both players hesitated at first, but Nurse soon took control, dominating the fight and taking McCarron down. Although McCarron attempted a few extra punches after falling, both players were sent to the penalty box.
The fight seemed to shift momentum in the Oilers' favor. Just minutes later Brett Kulak scored to tie the game 1-1 giving life to the Oilers. As the game entered the second period Edmonton was still tied & looking to capitalize on the momentum from the fight.
The Oilers will need their slumping stars to step up if they hope to secure a win but Nurse's fight could be the spark the team needs to turn things around. Fans will be watching to see if this intensity continues through the rest of the game as the Oilers look to find the rhythm that took them to the Stanley Cup finals last season.
