New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren exited Sunday's 5-2 victory against the New York Islanders due to a leg injury suffered in the second period.
Lindgren fell awkwardly into the boards following a hit from Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau and was escorted to the locker room while clutching his leg and emitting audible screams.
Post-game, Rangers coach Peter Laviolette informed reporters that Lindgren was still undergoing evaluation by medical staff, expressing particular concern for the veteran's left knee.
Renowned for his defensive prowess, Lindgren typically logs an average of 19:18 minutes of ice time per game for a Rangers team that has dominated the Metropolitan Division standings for much of the season. Despite contributing just two goals and 12 points, he boasted a plus-18 rating prior to Sunday's game.
Originally a second-round pick by the Boston Bruins in 2016, the 26-year-old Lindgren has spent all six of his NHL seasons with the Rangers.
Following Lindgren's departure from the game, Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere netted third-period goals, securing the Rangers victory over their rivals.
We wish Lindgren a speedy recovery.
