The NHL has fined Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe and Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato $25,000 each "for unprofessional conduct directed at the officials," the league announced Thursday.
Both incidents occurred during their respective teams' games on Tuesday night.
Keefe was given a game misconduct with 2:14 remaining in the third period of Tuesday's match against the Vegas Golden Knights after disputing a call with referee Garrett Rank and was subsequently ejected from the bench.
Following the game, the 43-year-old declined to comment on his ejection when speaking to the media, simply stating, "Not going there, not going there." However, Keefe did mention that the disparity in penalties played a role in the loss, saying, "Power plays are four to one in the game - that's a factor. That's not on the officials. That's part of the way the game goes."
Granato, on the other hand, received a bench minor in the third period of Tuesday's game against the Florida Panthers. He voiced his displeasure with officials after Zach Benson was penalized for tripping Florida's Niko Mikkola.
Florida capitalized on the subsequent power play, extending their lead to 3-1. The Panthers ultimately held on to win 3-2.
