The Gaudreau brothers were back in their hometown for Katie's wedding, which was planned for Friday. Tragically, their lives were cut short on Thursday night by an intoxicated driver, Sean Higgins.
Katie, who had to cancel her wedding, shared her thoughts on Instagram:
Johnny Gaudreau will be remembered as one of the greatest undersized players in the NHL, with a remarkable 115-point season and a Lady Byng award to his name. His legacy with the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets will live on forever.
Matthew Gaudreau was a beloved high school hockey coach and once played in the New York Islanders organization in the AHL. His wife is currently pregnant with their first child, Tripp. A GoFundMe page has raised over $500,000 to support her and their unborn son.
We send our deepest condolences to the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time, and we commend Katie for her strength in sharing her words. The hockey community will never forget Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau.
