With just a few weeks left before training camp begins, 35-year-old forward Max Pacioretty is still a free agent. However, new reports confirm that he has offers on the table and is expected to decide on his next team very soon.
Here's what Frank Seravalli shared on X:
Other well-known insiders, David Pagnotta and Nick Alberga, added more details, mentioning that the Toronto Maple Leafs are among the interested teams. They also noted that this wouldn't be a professional tryout but a standard player contract:
Pacioretty is coming off a tough stretch in his career, having suffered two serious Achilles injuries back-to-back. These injuries limited him to just five games during the 2022-23 season with the Carolina Hurricanes.
He's eager to bounce back in the upcoming season. Last year, in 47 regular season games, he scored 23 points, including four goals. As a natural goal-scorer, he's likely to find the back of the net more often if he joins a team like the Toronto Maple Leafs.
If he stays healthy, Pacioretty could add valuable depth to the lineup, whether he plays in the top six alongside Auston Matthews or William Nylander, or in the bottom six with Max Domi.
With other teams also interested in signing him, his final destination is still undecided, and the hockey world is eagerly waiting for his decision.
