One of Wayne Gretzky's records is on the verge of being broken & it's not by Alex Ovechkin but by Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Crosby's standout performance in the Penguins 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday highlighted his incredible impact on the game. He scored twice breaking the scoreless tie late in the first period & adding another on the power play in the second. With these goals, Crosby moved up in the NHL all-time rankings, tying Joe Nieuwendyk and Sergei Fedorov for 14th in game-winning goals and passing Luc Robitaille for 13th in even-strength goals, cementing his legacy among the sport's all-time greats.

Set up by a beautiful assist from Kris Letang Crosby's first goal showed the exceptional chemistry between the two Penguins veterans. Letang drove through Montreal's Nick Suzuki & delivered a backhand pass to Crosby who sent a quick wrist shot past Canadiens goalie Samuel Montembeault. With that goal, Crosby and Letang moved past Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty for third in goals by a forward-defenseman duo in NHL history. Their partnership remains a critical advantage for the Penguins.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan praised Crosby's resilience.

"I think inevitably, he's always such a determined player," Penguins Head Coach Mike Sullivan said. "When he goes through some of the ebbs and flows of a season, like all players do, he has an uncanny ability to will himself out of it."

After a slower-than-usual start to the season, Crosby has found his rhythm, scoring five goals and nine assists in his last 13 games, with four goals and seven points in his last three. With his recent performances Crosby has become a driving force in the Penguins attack proving once again that he's as influential as ever.

Throughout his remarkable career with the Penguins Crosby has led the team to three Stanley Cup Championships & established himself as a true icon. His clutch performances & leadership have inspired both teammates & fans solidifying him as the face of the franchise. Now he's closing in on a rare milestone of 600 goals which would make him only the second player to achieve 600 goals, 1600 points, three Stanley Cups & two playoff MVPs. Crosby would also be the first to do so with consecutive playoff MVPs which is something even Gretzky didn't accomplish.

Sidney Crosby is 3 goals away from 600.

He'd be the 2nd player ever with at least 600 goals, 1600 points, 3 Stanley Cups, and 2 Stanley Cup playoff MVPs.

Wayne Gretzky is the only other player to accomplish that.

Crosby is gonna be the first to do it with consecutive playoff MVPs.

The Penguins now head into a challenging three game road trip against the Capitals, Hurricanes & the Islanders with momentum fueled by Crosby's recent achievements & high level of play. As he nears these records & milestones Crosby's influence remains powerful continuing to shape the Penguins legacy & leaving a lasting impact on the NHL.
