Yesterday, rumors surfaced that controversial NHL defenseman Tony DeAngelo was preparing to join the KHL in Russia after becoming the first player to be bought out twice.
However, DeAngelo himself is pushing back against these rumors.
Tony DeAngelo has faced several behavioral issues throughout his NHL career, leading to multiple benchings. He had a confrontation with former teammate Alexandar Georgiev and has made many controversial social media posts.
DeAngelo has also been suspended multiple times. During the 2016-17 season with the Arizona Coyotes, he was suspended for three games for verbally abusing NHL linesman David Brisebois.
His attitude problems date back to his Ontario Hockey League (OHL) days. While playing with the Sarnia Sting in 2014, he was suspended twice for violating league policy.
In 371 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, and Philadelphia Flyers, DeAngelo has scored 48 goals and added 162 assists. These are impressive numbers that could have been even better without his behavioral issues. It appears that NHL teams may have had enough of him.
Will DeAngelo be able to secure another NHL contract, or will he have to move overseas to continue his career in Russia?
