Lemieux, 28, has yet to play in a game this season due to a lower-body injury. Last season, he recorded five points (three goals, two assists) and led the team with 64 penalty minutes in just 32 games. Lemieux, originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2014 (31st overall), has 74 points and a whopping 548 penalty minutes in 307 career NHL games, playing for multiple teams including Winnipeg, the New York Rangers, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Carolina.
If Lemieux clears waivers, he'll likely be sent to the AHL, giving him time to recover fully and work his way back into the lineup when healthy. Known for his gritty playing style, Lemieux brings toughness to any team he plays for, but his frequent injuries have slowed his recent contributions on the ice.
In other waiver news, the Columbus Blue Jackets placed forward Dylan Gambrell on waivers.
Gambrell has yet to play in a regular-season game for Columbus this season, and if he clears waivers, he'll be assigned to the AHL. It's expected that he will spend most of the season in the American Hockey League looking for opportunities to make an impact when called upon. Gambrell who is a versatile player will have to prove himself in the AHL before he can earn another shot at the NHL level.
Both Lemieux & Gambrell are players to watch as they look to reshape their careers this season.
