Young goaltender tragically passes away at the age of 22

The hockey community is mourning another tragic loss with the passing of Henry "Hank" Bradford, a goaltender for the University of Oregon in the ACHA, at just 22 years old.

We are heartbroken to share that our Senior goaltender, Henry «Hank» Bradford unexpectedly passed away on Friday, September 20th 2024. Hank was an incredibly kind and thoughtful man with a contagious laugh and an amazing sense of humor. As great a goalie as he was, Hank was an even better human. He was the perfect example of treating people how you want to be treated, never missing an opportunity to call someone «sir or ma'am.»

Hank, your mustache and last second splits will go down in Oregon hockey history forever. We'll miss you #1.

Hockey has been growing in popularity over the years, bringing in more talent, but with that comes the potential for heartbreaking events, as NHL fans know too well. Sadly, the community has lost another promising young player. Henry "Hank" Bradford, who played for the University of Oregon, passed away at the age of 22.

Henry, who was born in Arlington, Texas, began playing hockey at a young age and competed in the 14U AA League. He played 11 games with the HC Dallas 13U AAA team, achieving an .839 save percentage. He continued his hockey journey through high school before joining the Utica Jr. Comets in the USPHL Premier and NCDC leagues. During this time, he expressed excitement about improving his game and had hopes of one day making it to the AHL.

Henry spent the last three years as a goaltender in the ACHA for the University of Oregon, appearing in 20 games. In his final season, he posted a 4.15 goals-against-average and a .883 save percentage. After the news of his passing, Oregon Hockey shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, remembering him as not just a great goalie but an even better person, known for his kindness, humor, and respect for others.

Although Henry never reached the AHL or NHL, he made a lasting impact on those around him. Alongside his hockey career, he enjoyed traveling with his family, exploring nature, and visiting places like British Columbia, the Grand Cayman, and the Swiss Alps. His family has invited people to honor his memory by planting a tree in his name, sharing their deep loss and love for him.

Henry is survived by his parents, Mike and Karin, his brother William, and his grandparents. His sense of humor, kindness, and love for life will be missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, from helping underserved communities to coaching children, ensuring his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, coaches, and teammates.
