Boston is off to an insanely hot start to the season, sitting atop the standings with a 12-1-2 record. If they have learned their lesson from last season, this could be the year that the Bruins push for another Stanley Cup Run.
To do that, however, they will need some reinforcements down the middle of the ice. They lost both Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci this offseason and will need some more depth to make a run. Luckily for them, the Calgary Flames are shopping Elias Lindholm.
The Bruins should have a sense of urgency in trading for Lindholm, as the centreman has started the year off slowly for the Flames. He has just 3 goals in 16 games played, though he has managed to tally 11 assists. However, he is coming off a 4 point game against the Vancouver Canucks, signalling his slow season might be turning around.
If the Bruins want the most bang for their buck, they should be looking at a trade now, not at the deadline. This way, they still have options, and won't be desperate and pay too much to Calgary for Lindholm. They also won't risk Lindholm getting red hot and driving his value out of the Bruins' price range.
