Reports this afternoon confirm that Markstrom, who the Devils have been eyeing since the season ended, has finally been traded out of Calgary.
Travis Yost first reported the deal, which has now been confirmed by Frank Seravalli.
Further reports confirm that Jacob Markstrom will be heading to the New Jersey Devils. In return, the Calgary Flames will receive young defenseman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first-round pick.
Kevin Bahl is a solid, defense-first player with NHL experience who should step in immediately for Calgary. The first-round pick will help the Flames rebuild their prospect pool as they move towards a full rebuild.
The New Jersey Devils, on the other hand, get their franchise goalie in Jacob Markstrom. Over his four seasons in Calgary, Markstrom was fantastic and a key part of their success before the last two seasons.
At 34 years old, Markstrom is nearing the end of his career as a starter but could be exactly what the Devils need to take their team to the next level.
This trade will take time to evaluate, but if the Devils can capitalize on the early seasons with Markstrom, they could emerge as the early winners of this trade.
