According to a recent post from former NHL player Matt Murley, the Canadiens were reportedly in talks to trade goaltender Jake Allen to the Colorado Avalanche.
However, shortly after Murley's post, two NHL insiders weighed in to dispute these claims. TSN's Darren Dreger stated that Montreal and Colorado were far from reaching a deal, noting that there had been no recent communication between the two teams. Fellow insider Chris Johnston also refuted the reports of a trade, deeming them inaccurate.
Although there may not be any active trade discussions at the moment, Montreal's general manager Kent Hughes has expressed a desire to move one of the three goalies currently on the Canadiens roster. With Sam Montemebault signing an extension in December, either Allen or Cayden Primeau could be on the move in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche are also in need of goaltending help, with concerns over Alexandar Georgiev's workload and the reliability of recent call-up Justus Annunen. Previous rumors suggested that Allen could potentially serve as a backup for Georgiev, addressing the Avalanche's goaltending needs.
Stay tuned for more updates.
