The St. Louis Blues have taken a major step back over the past two years and are now looking to trade a veteran player to improve their middling roster.
After a successful run of post-season performances, including a Stanley Cup victory, the Blues have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in over 13 years. Now, the team is considering a significant shakeup this summer. NHL Insider Frank Seravalli revealed that the Blues might look to move Brandon Saad to clear up cap space and make room for a young, emerging player.
Saad has been a member of two Stanley Cup-winning teams in Chicago and Colorado, and after scoring 26 goals and tallying 42 points in the 2023-24 season, his value will likely never be higher. Although Saad has topped 40 points just three times since 2018, he remains a perfect middle-six forward in today's NHL. Therefore, the Blues could realistically get a solid return for the 31-year-old winger.
The Blues are accustomed to playoff success, and while it's unclear what they could get in return for Saad, this move makes perfect sense for both parties.
