Trade rumor emerges involving the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Maple Leafs

A new trade rumor has emerged that could see Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson heading to a Western Conference team.

All offseason, rumors have swirled about Robertson's future with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Earlier this summer, reports surfaced that Robertson had requested a trade.

Now, with the NHL season just weeks away, Robertson remains a restricted free agent without a contract. If he's unwilling to sign with the Leafs, a trade may be the only option. As a result, potential trade scenarios are being explored.

One possible trade would bring a former top-10 pick to Toronto.

According to Stephen Nixon of Editor In Leaf, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets could be trade partners. Nixon suggests the Leafs are looking for a team to take on Robertson, while the Jets might be interested due to their depth at center and need for young wingers.

Robertson has shown promise but struggled with injuries. Last season, he played 56 NHL games, recording 27 points. A healthy Robertson could thrive with more ice time, but he carries some risk.

Meanwhile, Cole Perfetti, a natural center, could be a great fit for the Leafs' third line. Perfetti has consistently put up around 30 points per season, which aligns with expectations for a third-line center on a contending team.

Since Robertson is the older and less highly rated prospect, the Leafs may need to add an extra asset to make the deal happen. However, if they believe Perfetti has untapped potential, it could be worth the price.

With the season fast approaching, it's likely the Leafs will make a move involving Robertson before opening night. A prospect-for-prospect swap like this could be a logical outcome.
