Injuries are inevitable in hockey, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch players leave games, especially when they can't go to the locker room on their own.
Last night, in the AHL, the Utica Comets forward Filip Engaras had to leave the ice on a stretcher after a dangerous collision with the boards.
Engaras was trying to get the puck behind the Laval Rocket defenseman Zack Hayes in their zone. The Comets player skated with the puck when he was pushed by Hayes and lost his footing, hitting the boards head-first at full speed.
The medical unit wasted no time to assist him, and eventually placed him on a stretcher before leaving the ice.

Later, it was confirmed by Laval Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent that Engaras was sent to the hospital and spent the night there:
Drafted 169th overall in 2020 by the Edmonton Oilers, the player spent most of his career in the AHL, playing for the Bakersfield Condors and the Comets. This season, in five games, he scored one goal.
