Many were expecting Boston to go out and land a prize free agent or look for a potential trade to replace their long-term captain, but surprisingly, he has been within the organization for a few years now.
Perhaps their fastest rising star is Matthew Poitras, a 19-year old who was the team's second-round pick of the 2022 NHL Draft, and after signing his entry level deal this summer, he's started hot, with 2 goals and five points through the team's first nine games.
This great start has had many declaring him as the Bruins next big star, and while he's still on the third line, with Pavel Zacha taking over duties between Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, Poitras has been off to a great start in his role.
So much so that Head Coach Jim Montgomery has now declared Poitras will be here in the NHL to stay, and at 19-years old, if he can continue to grow this season, he will no doubt be a key piece of this franchise for years to come, much like Bergeron was throughout his career.
