Boston Bruins forward Oskar Steen has reportedly signed a 5 year deal to play in the SHL, leaving his NHL future behind.

Steen, 26, split time between the NHL's Boston Bruins and the AHL's Providence Bruins, and has not had much sustained play in the NHL, setting a career high in games played with 34 for the Bruins during the 23-24 NHL season.

In his short lived NHL career, Steen only played 60 games, registering 4 goals and 4 assists for a measly 8 career points. This lack of production at the NHL level is likely what prevented the Swedish forward from carving out a full time roll with the Bruins.

With the announcement of his return to the SHL, Sweden's top hockey league, Steen will be returning to play in his home country for the first time since 2020-2021, where he suited up in 16 games for Bjorkloven IF, registering 12 goals and 15 points.

Steen will look to improve on his lackluster North American scoring pace in the SHL for the next 5 years, potentially working his way back to the NHL with strong play.
