Ahead of the final day of Rookie Camp, Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras experienced a worrying setback that kept him off the ice.

Following the NHL draft and free agency, teams are focusing on developing their prospects to compete at the highest level. One such player is Matthew Poitras, a center for the Boston Bruins, selected in the second round of the 2022 draft.

"With the 54th pick in the 2022 #NHLDraft, the #NHLBruins select center Matthew Poitras. Welcome to Boston, Matthew!"

Last season, Poitras faced a major setback. After playing 33 games for Boston, he had to undergo shoulder surgery, ending his season early.

"Mathew Poitras underwent surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the season. The 19-year-old ends his rookie season with 15 points, 40 shots on net, and a plus-4 rating over 33 appearances."

Months after his surgery, Poitras attended much of the rookie camp. He was seen on the ice for the Bruins at the beginning of the month, working on his shots.

"Matthew Poitras back on the ice."

However, Poitras was absent on the final day of rookie camp. While no official statement has been released about his condition, it's suspected that he is still recovering from his shoulder injury.

"Matt Poitras not on the ice for scrimmage day. Guessing he's not cleared for that kind of contact, but we'll see."

Rookie Camp is crucial for preparing young players for NHL-level hockey. Hopefully, Matthew Poitras's absence from scrimmage day won't affect his chances of success with the Boston Bruins this upcoming season.
