Coronato is a promising 21 year old forward & was recently demoted to the AHL which is a move that hasn't sat well with his agency. Coronato's agent named John Kofi Osei-Tutu even retweeted some critical posts that seemed to target a specific Flames teammate hinting at brewing internal drama.
The controversy largely stems from the perceived prioritization of veteran Anthony Mantha who was signed in the offseason over giving Coronato more NHL development time. Tweets from Coronato's agency questioned this decision sparking speculation that the team values experience over nurturing its younger talent. Though the retweets were quickly deleted the impact on team morale might already be felt.
The timing of this situation isn't ideal as the Flames have recently lost two consecutive games. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman suggested on his 32 Thoughts podcast that this tension could create major friction between Coronato & some of his teammates especially Mantha.
Despite the setback Coronato is determined to regain his form with the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL. While he had a challenging NHL season last year he's shown promise this season with two goals in his first five games. Whether this demotion is just a temporary obstacle or something more remains to be seen but the Flames will need to manage this tension if they hope to maintain team unity & make a strong playoff push.
