A trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs on February 27th resulted in Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty being sent to Toronto in exchange for a conditional 2025 1st round pick, 2026 2nd round pick, Joey Anderson, and Pavel Gogolev, who had been playing with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL.
Following the trade, Gogolev joined the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, playing in 2 games and scoring 1 goal. However, the Blackhawks surprised everyone by announcing today that Gogolev had been placed on unconditional waivers for contract termination.
If he clears waivers, it's expected that Gogolev will return to Russia or head back to Newfoundland to continue his professional hockey career.
