Artyom Levshunov's pro debut will be delayed after the Chicago Blackhawks' top prospect was sidelined with a foot injury. General manager Kyle Davidson announced on Friday that Levshunov will miss about four weeks, according to NBC's Charlie Roumeliotis.
Blackhawks goalie Laurent Brossoit will also be out for about four more weeks after undergoing meniscus surgery in August.
Though not officially confirmed, Levshunov, the 2024 second overall pick, was expected to start his pro career with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. The 6-foot-2 defenseman from Belarus recorded 35 points in 38 games as a freshman at Michigan State last season. He signed his entry-level contract in July.
Brossoit, signed in the offseason to a two-year, $3.3-million contract to share goaltending duties with Petr Mrazek, will be replaced by Arvid Soderblom during his recovery. Brossoit, 31, posted a .927 save percentage in 23 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season. He has played in 140 NHL games over his 10-year career.
The Blackhawks kick off their season on Oct. 8 in Utah.
