Colorado Avalanche Norris Trophy defenseman Cale Makar had a tough day on Thursday, accidentally scoring in his team's net during overtime. This gave the Arizona Coyotes a 4-3 win over the Avalanche at Mullett Arena.
Makar, known for his great plays, had a long shift defending against the Coyotes, successfully killing a two-minute power play. However, at the end of his 2:22 shift, he mistakenly slid the puck into his own net, leading to the Coyotes winning the game.
Even though the Avalanche lost, they still earned a point and maintain a strong record at 15-6-1 for the season. They're leading the Central Division with 31 points, just one behind Vegas in the Western Conference. The team has been performing well, with a 7-1-1 record in their past nine games.
Despite Makar's slip-up, the Avs' power play continues to be a strong suit. Over the last nine games, they've been successful 27.5% of the time on the man advantage. In the Coyotes game, both Makar and Nathan MacKinnon scored power-play goals.
Now, the Avalanche are on a three-game road trip, hoping to bounce back in the upcoming back-to-back games before returning home for a five-game homestand. Despite the recent hiccup, the Avs are still known for their comeback ability, leading the NHL in come-from-behind victories.
