In a recent article from The Athletic, insider Pierre Lebrun dropped a massive update on when we can expect to see Gabriel Landeskog in the Colorado Avalanche lineup.

Lebrun Sheds Light On Landeskog's Return From Injury

Colorado Avalanche captain, Gabriel Landeskog, hasn't played since winning the Stanley Cup two years ago. Despite hopes of a return during this year's playoffs, there's still no exact timeline for his comeback.

Landeskog underwent cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee last May, putting him 10 months into his recovery. While the Avalanche have aspirations for another Stanley Cup run, they're prioritizing Landeskog's long-term health over short-term goals. With five years left on his contract, the team is taking a cautious approach, especially considering Landeskog's history of knee surgeries.

Although there's hope for his return in the playoffs, the Avalanche won't rush him back. The recovery process has been positive, but the unique nature of the surgery makes it difficult to predict when Landeskog will be ready to play again.

«Everything is going good. It's just that this is such a unique, unfortunate injury,» Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland told The Athletic this past weekend. «We're in uncharted territory. It's a long recovery. They told us 12 to 16 months.»

Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Landeskog's recovery, emphasizing that while Landeskog is progressing well, there's still a long road ahead before his return to the ice can be confirmed.

«For a hockey player, there's no info on this (type of surgery and recovery),» MacFarland said. «It's unique. And Gabe is doing great, but there's still a lot of runway before we know, unfortunately, when he's going to be good to go.

«In terms of the recovery process, everything is good. The procedure is good, his checkups have been good. He's feeling good. So there's hope, but I'd be lying if I said the when and where and how the next few months are going to look. I don't know. I don't think anybody knows.»
